About BPMT
Phi Upsilon Sigma
BPMT? BPMT is an acronym that only trainers know and can only understand. Phi Upsilon Sigma is based at the University of Florida. This is the first chapter of this fraternity and hopefully, soon, there will be a few other chapters in Florida. The fraternity was formed on October 24, 2005 and wasn't fully active until around the beginning of January 2006. We've progressed a lot and are making big plans for the future. We've incorporated a complex but effecient organizational structure that keeps this group running. Every member of BPMT has a very important role in this fraternity.
How does the fraternity work?
Well, first of all the fraternity is just like any other fraternity, but with a little twist. We make our members feel very important about what they do and what they're involved in. There are two categories of members in BPMT.
Who's Who?
Candidates - Candidates are your typical pledges. Candidates are the lower end of the group, but every member has to go through this program. First, students who are interested in becoming members of Phi Upsilon Sigma, have to go through a selection process at one of the BPMT meetings, which are usually held every friday night. Candidates must fill out their paper work, then they will be asked a series of questions before the panel. If the student is picked they become a candidate. They then will have a series of tasks (clerical/physical/random) and will be graded at the end of their class to see what type of position they can apply for. These positions usually are the core of BPMT. Positions will be listed and described in another section.
Trainers - Trainers are your typical Brother. Trainers are graduated candidates that went through their initiation process. Initiation for each trainer must be kept secret between outside sources. If there are any leaks from trainers, he will be tried before the panel and possible expulsion of the fraternity, depending on the severity of his action. Trainers can either be active or inactive. Active Trainers have full fraternal benefits; voting, socials, parties, etc. Inactive trainers are trainers that are either too busy to put in work in order to keep BPMT running. Most trainers will have a job position. If a trainer doesn't have a job position, they will be assigned a senator position, and their most important asset will be their vote. Most of the paperwork that keeps this organization running is performed by trainers. A trainer will have a semester for each selected job position. At the end of each semester, there are elections to decide who wins President and Vice President. Also, all the other job posistions will be dispersed.
What can members get out of BPMT?
Members join Phi Upsilon Sigma for four reasons, and four reasons only.
1. Leadership - We train our members to become leaders and not followers. Every minute lesson we teach our members helps them improve their leadership skills. Only members can experience the power of leadership. We even give candidates a shot of leadership by giving one outstanding candidate a leadership job position (Chief of Candidates). Chief of Candidates works directly for the President and is the leazon between the trainers and candidates. Each candidate is graded privately for their leadership level and this score decides which job position they're applicable for.
2. Confidence - Confidence is only acquired though action. We put our members, in sometimes uncomfortable situations, but each action is designed to build confidence. Leadership and confidence tie into eachother because without confidence, members can't be a very good leader. Confidence is one of our most valued characteristic, but hardest to achieve.
3. Connections - Through BPMT, connections will be made. You will meet some of the most intelligent students that you will talk to for the rest of your life. With confident leadership skills, members can use their connections in the future to become very succesful in whatever they plan on doing.
4. Communications - Communications is the sum of all the three other offers we provide to our members. Good communications skills is only produced, never given. We train members to produce the most effective communication skills to be the most professional, yet fun loving members you'll ever meet!
